{"id":101,"date":"2014-08-28T11:36:10","date_gmt":"2014-08-28T11:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ipariparkblog.hu\/en\/?page_id=101"},"modified":"2014-08-28T11:41:24","modified_gmt":"2014-08-28T11:41:24","slug":"researchdevelopment-and-innovation-in-hungary","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/ipariparkblog.hu\/en\/archive\/researchdevelopment-and-innovation-in-hungary\/","title":{"rendered":"Research\/development and innovation in Hungary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Department of RDI Observatory of the National Innovation Office prepared a publication about the research and development and innovation in Hungary, which deals with the following issues among others:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What sources are available for R&amp;D?<\/li>\n<li>How much is spent on R&amp;D in Hungary or in the EU?<\/li>\n<li>From what do companies spend on R&amp;D?<\/li>\n<li>How extensive is the role of foreign companies in R&amp;D?<\/li>\n<li>Where and how many people are engaged with research in Hungary?<\/li>\n<li>How the R&amp;D results are used?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The R&amp;D expenditures of companies in Hungary started to increase from the end of the nineties. The expenditures for R&amp;D calculated in proportion of the <strong><strong>GDP increases by 30 % since 2008<\/strong><\/strong>, and in 2012 it reached the highest level considering the part 20 years. The per capita R&amp;D expenditure is 120.6 EUR (33 673 HUF), which is equivalent to a quarter of the value in the EU, <strong><strong>but it is over the average of newly admitted countries<\/strong><\/strong>. Large companies spend <strong><strong>30 % more money on R&amp;D relative<\/strong><\/strong> to the combined expenditure of micro, small and medium companies.\u00a0 The smaller the company, the larger the share government support, and the smaller the share of foreign support in the R&amp;D expenditures. <strong><strong>The larger the company, the larger the chance to become innovative<\/strong><\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A quarter of small companies and nearly of the medium companies in Hungary are considered already innovative. One international patent belongs to a<strong><strong> R&amp;D expenditure of 5.9 million EUR (over one and a half million HUF) in Hungary<\/strong><\/strong>, this is enough to be at the middle of the ranking of EU member countries. (Patents ensures legal protection for the inventions. The owner of patent has an exclusive right to utilize the solution according to the invention. The protection may be valid maximum for 20 years started from the submitting of the invention to the patent office, and only in countries where the patents are granted.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Hungary is ranked first among the recently joined countries<\/strong><\/strong> regarding the number of projects supported by the EU ERC program in the period 2010\u2013 2012. The European Research Council (ERC) started its work within the seventh research and technology development program (FP7) of EU. The task of the Council is to provide financing for the &#8220;exploratory&#8221; research recommended by researchers, where the excellence of the research program is the determining factor. In the period 2007\u20132013 the budget of ERC amounts to 7.5 billion.
